                                                                is a Mexican visual artist currently based in Oslo, Norway. In her practice she moves playfully between drawing, traditional printmaking, installation, artist publications and graphic narrative/comics. Through her work she creates unique storytelling approaches that explore memory, identity, nature, and the way changes in personal contexts generate unexpected encounters.

Alejandra holds a Bachelor degree (Honours) in Visual Arts from Facultad de Artes y Diseño of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (2010-2014). In 2021 she graduated from the programme MFA in Medium and Material Based Art, specializing in Printmaking & Drawing, at Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO). She obtained the Scholarship for International Postgraduate Studies FONCA-CONACYT 2019-2021. She has been recipient of the Stipend from Norske Grafikere Fond, Project Support and the Miscellaneous Scholarship for Newly Graduated Artists from the Norwegian Arts Council (Kulturrådet).

 

She has been nominated for the QSPA Inspirational Award (Kjell Nupen Memorial Grant) and the KoMASK European Masters Printmaking Award. In 2021, she was one of three winners of the Printmaking Today State of the Art Student Prize. Her work has been selected in national and international competitions and biennials, such as: ARTiJA 2nd International Art Biennial (Kragujevac, Serbia, 2020), 8th International Triennial of Graphic Arts Sofia 2019 (Sofia, Bulgaria, 2019), XI Bienal Nacional de Pintura y Grabado "Alfredo Zalce" (Michoacán, México, 2018), Pacific States Biennial North American Printmaking Exhibition (Hawai, USA, 2018), XXXVIII Encuentro Nacional de Arte Joven (Aguascalientes, Mexico, 2018), and the XI Bienal de Pintura "Joaquín Clausell" (Campeche, Mexico, 2015). She is a member of Norske Grafikere (Norwegian Printmakers), Tegnerforbundet (The Drawing Association), and Norske Billedkunstnere (Norwegian Visual Artists). She has participated in collective exhibitions in Mexico, Norway, Spain, Poland, Italy, Czech Republic and Bulgaria, amongst others. She has also presented her work in multiple solo exhibitions in Mexico and Norway. In early 2022 she was an artist in residence at P1 - Mobile Atelier from Tenthaus at Lier, Norway. In 2021 she was commissioned to make a site-specific artwork for the exhibition "U/synlig – hverdagsrasisme i Norge" inside the MINO building at the Holocaust - Senteret in Oslo, Norway.

 

Aside from her artistic practice she is also interested in art education and other artistic and curatorial projects and activities. She has been academic assistant to several artists and professors in Mexico and Norway. In 2017 she co-founded and coordinated the printmaking workshop Dédalo Print Studio in Mexico City, where she printed editions for artists, organized residencies and curated exhibitions, amongst other projects. In 2020 she was student assistant at the Intaglio Workshop at Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO). Most recently she started two projects: International Casita Contemporary: A tiny experimental gallery space and Relámpago Drawing Club: A collaboration with visual artist Viviana Cárdenas.
